This is a sim community and we are going to continue that tradition while playing MLB The Show. We are trying to bring the best sim experience that the MLB Show league has ever had. With that being said, there are some rules that we may miss but we are going to try to cover all the rules before the season starts. Baseball is a very complex game and is more about fundamentals than any other sport.
Game-play:
- The league setting will be default and set to all star play. Guess Pitch is off, Balks are on, strike zone is on, hot zones are off.
- Hitting will be set to default which is all star play as well.
Quitting is against the rules. If you quit a game, you will be booted from the league. No exceptions.
- Just like the rest of our leagues, respect is given to each and every opponent. If you are up by quite a bit, please do not try to run the score up. If you are up by 6 or 7, there is no need to steal a base to put him in scoring position. Have some common courtesy for your opponent.
Trades:
- There will be a total of 2 trades allowed per season. Once again all trades will need to be posted on the site and have approval from the trade committee. You will be able to use one trade in the offseason and 1 trade per in-season.
(In season runs from the first game to the trade deadline. Off season runs from after the season is over to the first game.)
- There is a max of 3 players per trade that can be traded from each team. The rest will have to be draft picks. This is to keep the amount of players switching teams to a minimum.
- Once again, this is a sim league. We are not trying to have teams look like fantasy rosters after the first week of the season. We realize that baseball trades will have to take alot to get some players but please keep it realistic. This will be enforced by not only players, but the trade committee.
Pitching:
This is one of the most scrutinized things in MLB The Show leagues. Pitching is one of the things that we want to keep as sim as possible.
- You will need to try to stay around the strike zone as much as possible but it is realized that all strikes wont be thrown. A good eye as well as sim pitching is needed. This doesn't mean you have to throw meat balls to Miggy Cabrera or Mike Trout, but you aren't allowed to pitch it completely outside on purpose to every batter every other pitch.
- You are allowed to pitch around hitters in certain situations. If you are in the 8th inning with a guy on 3rd and 2 outs and a cleanup hitter or someone you are not wanting to pitch to, walking them isn't unsim. But doing this in the first inning isn't sim.
- You MUST mix up your pitching. You can not keep pitching a 12/6 curveball or outside slider to a person over and over. We do understand that some pitchers may only have a few pitches, but you must mix it up.
- You must use a full 5 man pitching rotation. Even with the seasons being cut down, you must still use a full rotation of guys. The only exception to this is if their is an injury you may go to a 4 man rotation. You may also use a short rotation in the playoffs, 3 man minimum.
-This is a sim baseball league and USING RELIEVERS IS A MUST! It is not sim to throw 20 complete games in a 40 game season. Also once you start to use relievers you may not use the same one over and over. You have 6-7 relievers for a reason and they all need to be utilized. We have mostly seen this is in the American League because of the DH but just know it will be monitored closely.
- Each starter throughout the season is allowed up to 8 starts max per season. If anyone uses more than 8 starts during the regular season, trades and free agents will be taken away. Anyone found going over 8 starts with a starting pitcher will lose their trades and rights to any free agents.
- You are not allowed to hit a batter intentionally. Anyone found doing this will be punished.
Hitting:
- You must use full swings. No half swinging.
- You may only bunt with guys that are in a bunting situation or your lead off hitter. You may not bunt because you can't hit off of a pitcher. Playing small ball is allowed and you may bunt runners over if on second or in a late inning situation. Bunting with most of your lineup isn't sim.
- You may not bunt and send a player from 1st to 3rd or 2nd to home. Bunting is to be like a real life situation, you can bunt someone over to get them into position to score but not to take advantage of a video game.
-There are no suicide squeezes or bunting is not allowed with 2 strikes unless it is a pitcher or player that has been bunting the previous pitches as well.
Stealing:
- If you have ever played in a league or online, this is one of the most frustrating parts of playing. People absolutely go crazy trying to steal with every single person they get on base. This isn't sim. You may not try to steal with every single runner that gets on base. We will not all be fortunate enough to not have lag and it is hard to throw people out if there is any kind of lag. Early Steals are not allowed.
- You may steal with your lead off guys and in situational baseball play. Hit and runs are part of baseball as well, but we are not going to abuse this rule.
Fielding:
- Baseball games take a little bit of time to play as it is, so please do not throw the ball around to waste time. We are all grown and are trying to enjoy playing in a sim league. Please respect your opponents.
-It is against the rules to dive to try to get a man to run and then throw them out. That isn't sim league playing.
-It is against the rules to throw to 1st base from RF on line drives. This happens way to rarely to be considered sim.
-Advances will be every 3 nights for one series. We are allowed to have open 4 series at a time before games are simmed. Please make sure to get your games in.
